Ken Nesworthy - Head Coach
Coaching Level: ASA Coach Level 4 - ASA Advanced Teacher
Ken’s involvement in competitive swimming began in 1965 as a swimmer with South Shields United Amateur Swimming Club.
Following the formation of South Tyneside Swimming Club in 1979, Ken who re-joined the team in 1985, progressed within the club staffing structure to become Head Swimming Teacher in 1987, developing many young swimmers through the Learn To Swim and Pre Competition groups who progressed to the STMBC Council Funded Competitive swimming Squads lead at the time by the successful Head Coach Paddy Hayes.
Following the retirement of Paddy Hayes in 1990, Ken was appointed the position as Head Coach responsible for all teaching and coaching development within the Club.
Since then Ken a totally dedicated enthusiastic individual with a hard work ethic has Progressed through the ranks of swimming with several promotions.
Northumberland and Durham Counties ASA Team Coach Junior Development Camp Course Director and Swimming Committee Member.
North Eastern District ASA Coach and Team Manager, Team England Team Manager and British Swimming Training Camp, Coach.
Ken has consistently developed athletes to County, District and National level and was instrumental in the age group and youth development of South Shields born Olympian Chris Cook, coaching the World ranked Breaststroker who swam with the South Tyneside Team from the age of 10 –19 years.
Ken a keen footballer and athlete (18 Great North Runs P.B. 81 minutes World Vets Athletics competitor 100 PB 12. 58 and 200m 24.59 Ken has also coached Several school cross country teams and South Tyneside Schoolboys Football Team.
Ken is also currently working within the P.E. department as Head Swimming Coach at Sandhill View School, Sunderland .
Ken is totally committed to offering to young people in South Tyneside the opportunity to the develop their skills and talents to the highest possible standard in both Competitive Swimming and Coaching.
